It was the early 1970's at Riverside Park on the Upper West Side of Manhattan in New York City that a unique social movement was beginning to emerge.

A tight-knit group of like-minded people with plenty of creative energy were laying down their roots. They were soaking up all of New York's style and influences. The biggest influence was that of the Graffiti Artist sub-culture, who used to hang out in a subway tunnel that ran underneath the Central Park Zoo, this was also known as the Zoo York Tunnel. At night this tunnel was a "Scene" where crews of graffiti artists would gather.

In time this group became known as The Soul Artists of Zoo York and consisted of aerosol graffiti artists, skateboarders, and a great music scene was also emerging. With such originality this scene rapidly took off and went on to become an unstoppable global force.

By the time the 1980's had arrived, Zoo York had become to represent New York's underground sect of artists, b-boys, skateboarders, punks, and their various creative off-shoots. The Zoo York revolution was in full effect as graffiti writers bombed trains, DJ's mastered the wheels of steel, and skateboarders staked their claim to now legendary spots like Washington Square, Brooklyn Banks, and the Astor.

OG skateboarders Rodney Smith, Eli Morgan Gessner, and Adam Schatz, decided to team up in 1993 and they founded a skateboarding-inspired lifestyle brand which was called Zoo York.

The rapidly evolving scenes of hip-hop, skateboarding and graffiti artists led the inspiration of their streetwear collection which was dark and gritty. The collection consisted of skateboard decks and T-shirts which steadily became very popular. Military surplus and urban-athletic styling designed to withstand the city's rugged terrain were added to a full blown collection of streetwear.

Today Zoo York has become a globally recognised brand that still has its conceptual East Coast attitude. Influences are still taken from the scene that is still very much alive in New York, influences still range from skateboarding, hip-hop, punk, grafitti and anything else that can be found in the City.

Zoo York caters for men, women and youths with a wide range of casual utilitarian looks fused with authentic military-influenced overtones, this can also be seen in their extensive line of skateboards, accessories, and footwear. All this still captures the raw essence of New York City. Many of the original inspirational Zoo Crew strongly back and remain loyal to the company. They are now joined by some of the biggest names in snow, surf, BMX and the motorcross communities.

In the fourteen years that Zoo York has been around, they have brought out some amazing collections and so; what is in store for us in the future?
